This is the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial on the way to the Lincoln Memorial:

Then we headed to the White House on foot. Of course we had to stop at get popsicles for the walk...Ninja turtle popsicles to be exact! Aren't these the best things ever??! Such a perfect, creamy consistency.
We got a hot dog at a food truck and went back to the hotel to drop all of our bags off from our Norfolk, VA stop. Then we got ready and headed to the Smithsonian District. It was almost 5:00 p.m. and the museum normally closes at 5:30 p.m. We got there and saw this sign out in front:
We read online that the museum stays open a little later on some Mondays randomly throughout the year. How lucky were we?!?!
Our first stop was the National Museum of American History. (pics from my phone)
This is a replica of Julia Childs' kitchen.
Of course the most important thing to see at this museum were the ruby slippers. In case you didn't know, I had a Wizard of Oz obsession when I was younger. I had a shelf full of Wizard of Oz collectibles including collectible barbies, snow globes, ceramic plates and mugs, monopoly and trivia games, beanie babies and so much more! It wasn't all packed up into boxes until I moved away to college my freshman year.
Who remember ipods that big??? I don't!
I thought this was cool. This camera was used to capture the only known footage of the first plane that hit the north tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
So many other cool things! Then we ran over to the National Museum of Natural History.

Once the museums closed we decided to walk to the U.S. Capitol as it was getting dark.
After walking back to our car we headed back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We walked to a little Cafe down the street from our hotel . We were starving!!
Such an amazing weekend trip!! So many priceless memories. We went to bed at about 1 a.m. and woke up at about 2:30 a.m. to pack and head to the airport for our 6 a.m. flight on Tuesday morning. We learned that the street lights in D.C. are horrible! The roads were empty, but we were stopped at EVERY single street light on the streets. Not only were we stopped at every light, we had to wait minutes until it would turn green!! We thought somebody was pranking us it was so bad! Plus it was 3 a.m. and we were just EXHAUSTED. We basically didn't sleep much the whole trip PLUS we did tons of walking, but we're young and going to do crazy stuff like this while we can! : ) Who needs sleep anyway...
Spencer bought these at the airport and we basically slept the whole way home.
We got picked up from the airport by my younger sister, got home, showered and headed to work on 3 hours of sleep. We are so blessed to be able to do little fun trips like this. Such good memories we will have with us forever!
Thanks for following!
